--History of the Nexi--

The Nexion dimension is a multi-species domain, encompassing several different creatures and life-forms, which formerly acted as a united nation.  These creatures are called the Nexi, as namesakes of their area of origin.  The Old-World Nexi, through records and texts that still exist, were described as a highly intelligent civilization, having discovered many types of technology, in particular space travel and interstellar technology.  However, through centuries of petty wars (In particular the Greatwar of the Siege) and civil strife, along with several major widespread biological accidents; the Nexi empire broke up into four distinct groups by the year 2303.  These four separate empires are currently: The Imperius, the Neugyls, the Shoyturia, and the Enigma.  Since then, encounters between the separate factions have been short and violent, to say the least.  However, recent shortages of resources and usable terraform planets and moons has resulted in the Imperius' search for "greener pastures".  This new expansionist policy has increased the number of encounters between the Imperius and the three other formerly-united groups, which used to be quite rare.  The rate of conflict between the four groups has now risen and is now reaching a critical point...

"Battleships do not kill.  It is the crew on board that does."
-General Tadge Wilkins, commander of the 5th Imperialist Fleet

--The Imperius Empire--

The Imperius Empire is currently the largest faction residing in the known universe.  Due to this, they of course also hold the largest amount of territory.  The Imperius Faction currently holds more territory than all the other factions combined, from Alpha-Gamma, System IX, all the way to Omega-Upsilon, System XXV.  The Imperius Government can be described as a corrupted form of democracy, with a presiding executive officer who actually wields a kind of despotic power.  Imperius culture is multi-faceted, encompassing many races and species.  Because of this, the Imperialists have no major religion, which might account for the disunity in the Imperius government.  Recently, due to governmental corruption and inactivity in restabilizing and maintaining their democracy, the economic and political status of the Imperius has begun to wane.  Chaos and instability now reside where peace and order used to thrive.  Although the Imperius Faction still holds the largest field armies and starfleets in the known universe, their hold on power has begun to decay.  Indeed, more and more groups of rebelling Nexi have started to withdraw from or divide the Imperius faction, slowly deeming it fit for ruin.

"If it looks hostile enough, shoot it down!"
-First Maxim of the Neugyl Order

--The Neugyl Faction--

Frankly, the Neugyl are a mystery.  It is not yet fully understood how they manage to retain their physical forms, which are composed primarily of nothing but energy.  All that is known is that they were once Nexi much like the Imperius.  In a bio-thermal accident at a small island power plant, a massive energy explosion converted their bodies into pure organic energy, rendering them highly volatile and powerful.  Wanting to avoid scandal, the Imperialists banished their former citizens into the farthest reaches of space.  They now live on structurally unstable but highly ridden–with–energy planets, since energy intaking is periodically needed in order to maintain their forms.  They maintain starfleets, but these starfleets are as much of a mystery as the Neugyl themselves.  All that is known of them is that they are composed of the energy essence of the Neugyl themselves, which is then sheathed in a rock/metal ore hull in order to maintain their physical form and shape.  The collective essence and mentality of the entire Neugyl empire apparently control these ships.  Constant living on hostile environs has made them highly militaristic and extremely hostile to outside agents, which has led to the development of their first maxim.  Their government is led by a massive legislature of representatives of different areas of their territorial systems, much like a democracy.  Their external features are highly transparent, being in the texture of a web of energy strands, which leads to them looking only somewhat like their former cousins.  They currently occupy a relatively large percentage of Nexi space, encompassing several galaxies and systems.

"We are not an empire.  We are a brotherhood."
-Talisken, eminent Shoyturian Praetor.

--The Shoyturia Faction--

If there is a prize that goes to the smallest faction, then it would definitely go to the Shoyturia.  Yet, if there is one thing that is decisively in their favor, it is the fact that judging by mere appearances is fatal.  And the Shoyturia is a definite example of that.  The Shoyturia are the descendants of a small group of Nexi citizens, who rebelled against the corruption of the Imperius.  In retaliation, the Imperialists banished them to hostile and barren systems and left them to fend for themselves.  Yet, mysteriously, they flourished.  It is theorized that they managed to find traces of unknown alien technology and were able to utilize it for themselves.  Due to their living on high - gravity systems, they are small in stature, yet are extremely strong and highly advanced in technology, as well as being utilitarian and efficient.  Indeed, despite the small area of territory the faction controls, they command one of the most powerful starfleets in the known galaxy, including the much-feared and venerated Hapatlaketal-class warcruisers.  A council of five leaders, known as Praetors lead the Shoyturia government.  Each is a foil of the other four, and often have differing viewpoints, yet inexplicably, they are able to come to decisions that benefit the entire faction.  The faction encompasses just a few other species and races, and they currently control only twenty systems in two galaxies.  Yet, they are powerful, and augment their starfleets and ground armies with both highly - trained professionals and advanced robotic field units, rendering them a serious threat to the Imperius faction.  Although highly impassive and rather indifferent to the current conflicts between the Neugyl, the Enigma, and the Imperius, once antagonized, they are highly dangerous, and most encounters with an enraged force of Shoyturia end up in utter disaster for the other.

"DNA splicing is what they do best.  It's in their genes."
-Imperialist emissary in council .045-324

--The Enigma--

The Enigma is actually considered more of a single species than a faction, hence, the lack of a "faction" suffix to their entry.  The Enigma's predecessor is a single Nexi, who is now known only as "The Overlord".  This Nexi was once like anyone else, turned bioterror weapons experiment by scientists.  It was designed to be genetically unstable and capable of absorbing any genetic data, be it through pre-existing physical attributes, pure DNA samples, or even data stored onto a computer's memory core.  However, the weapon rebelled against its creators, and fled, along with some cloning equipment and machinery.  Although the Imperialists searched for months, they found no trace of him.  Until now...  Recently, a rash of reports have been coming in from distant Imperius outposts, reporting sightings of strange and often hostile xenomorphic creatures, which were never before seen.  They all bore the traits of Nexi DNA, and each carried different traits of natural weaponry.  Little is known of this collective group of creatures, except that they all seem to act as one group and very single - mindedly, all of them acting as one single entity.  However, recent studies have shown that once one of these creatures have been separated from the groups for a significant length of time, they begin to act for themselves, proving themselves to have originated from a sentient source or entity.

--Other Entities--

Other groups have also appeared in the Nexion dimension, most notably, the Orius and the Terranii in the past.  The Orius are an enigmatic, canine-like group that sometimes appear in the confines of the Nexion dimension, and encounters are short and few.  The Terranii, meanwhile, are a group of bi-pedal beings that have arrived through a warpfield from another dimension, before the split-up of the Nexion empire.  Basic activities include mercenary work and trading.  Further research has resulted in the identification and location of their homeworld, known to the Terranii as Earth, while most other Nexion inhabitants, notably the Shimaereans and the Orvek’tar call it Point Origin.
